Many among the North American Hungarian folklife community have come to know Rie Adachi and Tomohiko Yamaguchi. Hailing from Japan, they spent the last few years in Kansas on a work assignment. While there, they commuted to Chicago’s Borozda Ensemble on a regular basis. Tomohiko is also an avid brácsa player, and Rie enjoys singing.

They’re truly are die hard fans. They pop up in New Jersey, Montreal, Csipke Tábor, New York, and wherever Hungarian folk dancing is accessible and available. Tomohiko also gave a talk at last year’s Hungarian Folklife Association Annual Conference. They also participated in our Pontozó events.

They have, indeed, become a part of the rich tapestry of our Hungarian culture here. And they will be missed immensely. For now, it is not a “good-bye” but a “see you later,” as they promised to be back from time to time.
