Over the course of the last few months, the Hungarian Folklife Association (HFA) has been working with the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Program (KCSP) to offer a folklife orientation for incoming KCSP fellows.
The training, delivered today, was focused on providing resources, support and broad mentoring to new and returning KCSP. After a brief overall introduction and background discussion with HFA leadership, including a description of the current status of diasporal folk ensembles, attendees were treated to a fantastic roundtable discussion with former KCSP Gábor Szanyó, Lili Balogh, and ensemble leaders Liz Kovach (representing Canada) and Eduardo Bonapartian (representing South America).
Over the course of the fellowship, HFA will offer two subsequent sessions entitled KCSP Folklife Mentoring Circles. The aim is to continue supporting the KCSP fellows and their on-going work and to provide a safe space for discussion and questions.
“Based on the initial feedback in our post-event survey, the orientation was very well received. We hope more folks participate in the future. The more voices and ideas, the stronger the conversation,” remarked Panni De Cheke Qualls, one of HFA’s Executive Directors.
